Some facts about the rubber chicken…
Johnny Carson kept a rubber chicken behind his desk on NBC’s “The Tonight Show” as a comedic talisman – it was believed that “A rubber chicken always gets a laugh.”
The term “rubber chicken” sometimes is used to describe the food served at political or events where there are a large number of guests who need to be served in a short time-frame. Often, pre-cooked chicken is held at serving temperature for some time and then dressed with a sauce as it is served. Consequently, the meat may be tough or “rubbery.” Someone who “travels the rubber chicken circuit” is said to do so by attending or making speeches at many such gatherings.
The term “Rubber Chicken Fix” refers to holding a rubber chicken above a problem and having the problem fix itself. The phrase can be applied to a variety of scenarios. Realistically, the solution to the problem cannot be explained so a rubber chicken is introduced to offer an explanation of how it was corrected. We here at SCRaP can offer lots of ideas to fix and create things, but just in case, we do have our own rubber chicken to wave around, for those moments when we don’t have any idea what we are doing.
To give back to Johnny and the golden years of comedy, we offer you our rubber chicken for the daily ‘laugh’…. so please – dance (like a rubber chicken all you want to) like no one is watching – seriously…..
